Silicon Photonics Design Workshop: Tuesday, 22 August 12:00pm

On the afternoon of August 22nd, Mentor, a Siemens business, Luceda Photonics, VLC Photonics and Lumerical Solutions will host a workshop on "Silicon Photonics Design, Simulation and CAD flows”. The workshop is open to all conference attendees. Participants will receive hands-on training and exposure to schematic capture, layout generation and simulation of photonic integrated circuits (PICs). During the workshop, attendees will learn how to design an AWG and other photonic building blocks such as directional couplers and splitters. In addition, participants will learn the latest techniques in full flow PDK driven photonic circuit design, implementation and simulation. The design framework is centered on Mentor’s easy to install, easy to use Tanner EDA S-Edit and L-Edit, driving Lumerical’s INTERCONNECT circuit simulator and Luceda’s IPKISS.eda design suite and Caphe circuit simulator. The framework and hands-on examples will showcase a seamless integration between Luceda’s IPKISS and Lumerical FDTD Solutions for component analysis, and will also give an overview on the development of Silicon photonics circuits and design challenges by VLC Photonics. You don’t need to be a software tool expert to attend, the workshop and hands-on examples are designed to suit your skill individual level and learning objectives. If you’re new to the tools, the workshop is a great opportunity to gain hands-on exposure to the strengths of the solution. For more advanced users, there will be opportunity to work through real world application examples that provide exposure to more advanced capabilities of the workflow and tools.
The workshop will be taught and supported by product and technology experts from Mentor, Luceda, VLC Photonics and Lumerical Solutions.
Participants bringing their own laptop (Windows based or MAC running a Windows Virtual Machine) will be able to work on the tutorials during the workshop. A pre-workshop video with step by step instructions to setup the laptop in advance will be uploaded on the conference website after August 15th.
